Candidate of Economic Sciences, Honored Economist of the Russian Federation (2008). Since August 2023, he has been the Editor-in-Chief of the journal «Voprosy Statistiki».
Oleg Nikiforov was born July 7, 1958 in Leningrad.
In 1984, he graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Finance and Economics, named after N.A. Voznesensky, with a degree in Statistics.
All professional activities of Oleg Nikiforov are related to his work in state statistical agencies, including in senior positions. Since 1994 – Deputy Chairman of the St. Petersburg State Statistics Committee; from 1998 to 2023 – Head of Petersburgkomstat / Petrostat (Rosstat Regional Office of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region). Between 1998 and 2022, he was a member of the Collegium of Rosstat. In his time in public service, he was honored with 15 state and departmental awards.
In 2000, he defended his dissertation for the Candidate of Economic Sciences degree on «Statistical analysis of regional income from international tourism».
In 2000, he graduated from the North-West Academy of Public Administration with a degree in State and Municipal Administration.
In 2020, he received additional professional education at Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) under the program «Implementation of Digital Transformation Projects», and in 2022 – under the program «Development of National Statistical Systems».
He has extensive experience in organizing and conducting research projects on socio-economic topics as an executor and co-leader. Не actively participated in the exchange of experience events held in the framework of Rosstat cooperation with international organizations and national statistical services of foreign countries.
O.N. Nikiforov authored and co-authored more than 40 scientific publications on various economic topics, including articles published in the journal «Voprosy Statistiki» and educational textbooks (Eliseeva I.I. His research interests include population statistics, tourism statistics, labor statistics, transport statistics, environmental protection statistics, and innovation development statistics.
