Issues of Compiling Food Balance Sheets in the CIS Countries

Abstract

These Recommendations for compiling balance sheet items were developed as part of the implementation of the Program for the Development of Statistics in the member-states of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2023. The objective of the work was to prepare methodological tools for constructing a food balance sheet (FBS) for the most important types of food in the Commonwealth countries.
Methodological principles for the construction of FBS were drawn up based on recommendations from FAO and other international organizations, adapted to the conditions of agriculture the availability of statistical data and administrative information in the CIS countries. The paper covers approaches to data imputation and economic calculations used in the FBS formation. Recommendations for compiling FBS items for each of the essential foods nationwide have been elaborated. The authors focused on determining the set of necessary parameters and approaches to their calculation for constructing FBS items
